Self-
enhancement or improvement of the outer appearance is known as
cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic or aesthetic surgery is a branch of plastic surgery.
Plastic surgery deals with repair or restoration of body parts for functional or aesthetic reason.
Another branch of plastic surgery is reconstructive surgery which is reconstruction of deformed or destroyed body parts, while, cosmetic surgery is performed for personal enhancement. Some of the common cosmetic procedures includes: suction-assisted
lipectomy or the "
liposuction",
abdominoplasty or "
tummy tuck"
rhinoplasty or "
nose job", and
augmentation mammaplasty or "
breast enlargement" or "
boob job".
The fame of cosmetic surgery began way back in the 8th BC. Reconstruction or repair of body parts where reported from India and Rome.
Cosmetic or aesthetic surgery is becoming more and more popular today. However, the high cost of these surgeries still makes others skeptical about it. Expensive it is, others strive to save money or take loans just to undergo cosmetic surgery. Money is a big factor to consider before going through the self-enhancement procedure. One should not settle to cheaper cosmetic surgery services because this may mean undesirable result or worst, serious health risks. Another important factor is selecting a doctor. The doctor should not only have a license; he should have a good name and a good reputation. After selecting a good doctor, the patient should see his/her doctor once or more times before the procedure. This is essential for the patient must be informed about what he or she should expect after the surgery.
Before jumping into the bandwagon consider this! Give yourself one good reason why you should undergo cosmetic surgery.
