Creation of new organ -solutions to number of medical problem University of Minnesota researchers succeeded in creating a beating rat heart in .The researchers took dead animal hearts and stripped them of everything except the blood vessels, valves and connective tissue. These scaffolds or platforms were then seeded with cells from newborn rat hearts and, after four days of growth, the organs started to contract. Within eight days, the hearts were beating. To test the compatibility of new the new heart, the team successfully transplanted them into abdomen of unrelated live rats. Ms Doris A. Taylor, head of the team said "With modifications, scientists should be able to grow a human heart by taking stem cells from a patients bone marrow and placing them in a cadaver heart as a scaffold." The creation of new organ is very useful in disease conditions where the organ is severely damaged can be easily replaced by new one. · Kidney failure may require a organ transplant · Damages to liver from liver failure, from cirrhosis of liver, viral hepatitis etc. · When pancreas is damaged as in severe diabetic. For example In Type 1 diabetes the cells in the pancreas that make insulin are destroyed, causing a severe lack of insulin and this can be treated by organ replacement easily. Diseases of lungs: where lungs are damaged which result in respiratory failure and circulatory failure can be replaced Male infertility: testicular failure where there is Azoospermia, lower testosterone leveland too high FSH AND LH, where testicles can be replaced to more efficient one. Damages to brain: example as in the case of stroke, requires replacement of the portion affected with new one. Heart: as in case of heart attack where new efficient heart can be substituted Useful Links: http://www.hinduonnet.com/holnus/008200801150322.htm
