This study was to ascertain the effects of a programme of education, self-care posture on the perceived
discomfort skeletal muscle,
postural habits and
occupational environment of individuals who work seated. It was composed of two phases. The first, the educational program, in which the information was transmitted through classes exhibitions with corrective feedback, the content of which was based on the "Manual for the prevention of discomfort postural for individuals who work sitting," proposed by Coury (1995). The second was a program of stretching and breathing based on "Alongamentos Global Assets." The implementation of the programme was conducted with fourteen secretaries, following the
changes observed in postural habits implemented on jobs and the development of the musculo-skeletal discomfort perceived. To this end, data were collected on the characterization of musculo-skeletal discomfort, and occupational situations have been filmed and furniture was measured before and after training. Information was presented from the descriptive statistics. The results indicated that after the training, 64.3% of the subjects had their symptoms reduced; changes in postural habits (42.9% improved the angle of the feet, 78.6% changed the support of the feet and 64.3% the lumbar), and there were changes in discrete variables: height of the seat, away from the keyboard to the operator and some components of self-care. In summary, we can conclude that the program contributed to the reduction of musculo-skeletal discomfort, changes in postural habits and occupational environment of the participants.
