NORMAL AND THERAPEUTIC NUTRITION

Book Review by: kumudhini

Original Author: PROUDFIT: ROBINSON
1. FOOD : Next to the air we breathe and the water we drink, food is basic to our existence.By food, or its lack, destinies
of men are greatly influenced. We must eat to live long, to be healthy, to work and to be happy in this world.Serving a meal stimulates conversation between family and friends. So serving a meal is mainly a way to celebrate birthday, wedding day, anniversery, etc.Serving meal is a token of love and security.A party in which we can afford certain foods others cannot, is a display of our prestige. So we have to make a menu with correct ideas of food, thus we have to enter the study of Nutrition and Dietetics.
2. NUTRITION: Nutrition and health are not synonymous, but without good nutrition health cannot be at its best.Nutrition is the combination of processes by which we receives and utilizes the materials necessary for the growth and renewal of our components. Nutrition is based on and integrated with the sciences of chemistry, biochemistry and physiology.
3. DIETETICS: It includes consideration of the planning of meals for the well and the sick, together with the selection, storage, preparation, and serving of foods with due emphasis on economic, social, and psychologic factors. The health of the entire family is more nearly assured through the application of nutrition principles by the mother.Antoine Laurent Lavoisier is known as the Father of the Science of Nutrition.Alas! he became a victim of the guillotine. The study of dietetics is about the amounts of various nutrients which are needed to prevent various deficiency diseases, such as obesity, ulcer, anemia, goiter, and so on.
Importance of water to our body
Energy swirls around in our bodies. Some energy flows freely while others get stuck or have a difficult time pushing the energy through. Water is an excellent transporter of chi in the body. Medical and Natural Doctors both agree on the importance of water consumption. The average person should have approximately 8 cups of water daily. In the beginning it will seem as if you are going to the bathroom every couple of minutes. As time goes on your bladder will get stronger and you will be able to have your required amount of water without visiting the bathroom as often.
