BEE
VENOM - SEVEN
HEALTH SECRETS FROM THE HIVE
The Venom of honey bees has medicinal values.
BEE venom is a clear liquid with a sharp, bitter taste, with aromatic odour and it has acidic reactions. Anaphylactic shock from been sting to a person that is hypersensitive can lead to death. Under normal circumstances, it would probably require at least five hundred stings over a short period of time of direct toxicity of bee venom to cause death.
Bee venom contains several biochemical and pharmacologically active substances including histamine, dopamine, melittin, peptide, minimine and the enzymes. It is a complex mixture of over thirty-five chemical components including pesticides phospholipase, mellitin, apamin etc. Bee venom therapy has long been practiced in Europe and it is recently being advocated for use in the United States by two physicians, Dr. Beck and Dr. Bradman.
The history of curative value of bee venom could be traced to the ancient time and its history is particularly traced to Hippocrates, the father of medicine in Ancient Greece. Several medical journals and great medical scientists have also lent their voices at various time to the healing power of bee venom. The International Conference on Apitherapy in 1983 has also reported that bee venom contains natural elements that can cure rheumatic
diseases, degenerative diseases, arthritic conditions etc.
Bee venom has a lot of therapeutic properties. These properties are
associated with the mobilization of the
organism’s protective forces particularly with reference to
increase in the internal secretion of the pituatry and the adrenal cortex with the consequent reconstruction of organism’s reactivity. Venom’s curative powers is observed through its simulating effects on blood and blood vessels, that is, its ability to increase blood circulation. The venom is also capable of stimulating human endogenous system.
Bee venom is also used for its analgesic effect and it can cause inhibition of ganglions.
The health condition of the bee keepers is always good and non of them has been found suffering from either cancer or gout.
In testing its potency and efficacy, bee venom was successfully used in inflammatory affections in patients and in laboratory animals. Indeed, many patients with hypertensive diseases that underwent treatment with bee or that were working in the apiary where they were frequently subjected to bee stings were healed. Their condition of health improve, their blood pressure fell considerably, headaches and irritability disappeared and ability to work increased considerably. However, it is virtually free of side effects and allergic reactions associated with most drugs.
