The conventional medical body does make a compelling argument
against all forms of “Alternative” medicine, quite reasonably
pointing out that
there are almost no regulatory bodies governing alternative medical practices.
Lack of medical training and minimal educational qualifications are also a
great source of contention. They further allude to a complete lack of legal safeguards
for patients against potential injury by none medically qualified
practitioners. Another favorite debate by the conventional lobby is that
“Alternative” medicine has no scientific basis.
The Alternative camp point out that all conventional drugs
are poisons and can have serious side effects. That the basic tenet of
conventional medicine is to work against the body by taking over from the
immune system or worse suppressing it completely. Where as alternative
therapies support the immune system helping the body to heal itself (holistically).
The scientific question is dismissed as unfounded because alternative therapies
have been working for thousands of years – how much more proof does anyone need
is often the retort. The lack of education is also being addressed by many
world renowned teaching establishment. Governments are also bringing in
legislation to protect the public.
Would it not be of benefit to the whole world to have a
medical practice that encompasses all that is good from both systems? A
regulated body of dedicated physicians that are well qualified in both schools
of medicine. Giving us (the patients) far more freedom of choice as well as
more chance of recovery.
