1. Every morning after waking up, fill your mouth with water, close the eyes and sprinkle water on them for about 10-15 times. Eyes should not be washed with hot water.
2. The eyes or face should not be washed when the body is sweating, especially after hard physical exercise or after being exposed to sun and heat.
3. Avoid staring continuously especially at long distance objects. Blinking or giving rest to the eyes is good. Do not look at the objects in bright sunlight for a long time. Do not read, write or work with eyes in improper light, or when the light is not sufficient. Take a break and give rest to the eyes if heaviness or tiredness is felt in the eyes.
4. Ayurveda advises to wake up before sunrise.
5. Staying up late in the night and sleeping after sunrise is harmful for the eyes. If staying up late cannot be avoided, drink a cup of water after each half hour.
6. Protect your eyes from dust, smoke, strong sunlight and strong wind. Avoid staying long in such conditions. In case you have to stay, blink often and massage the closed eyes gently with your palms.
7. As constipation weakens the eyesight, regular and clean bowel movements must be maintained. Moreover, too much anxiety, grief, anger, mental stress and worry may cause harm for the eyes.
8. One simple exercise is moving the eyeball in all directions i.e., right and left; upwards and downwards and rotating it in the clockwise and anti-clockwise directions. Regular eye exercise helps to maintain perfect eyesight.
9. The palms of both hands are rubbed for about 30 seconds and gently placed the warm palms over the closed eyes.
10. Eating cabbage and carrots, as raw or as juice, is highly beneficial for the eyes.
11. One teaspoon of Triphala powder is put in a glass of water and kept overnight. During the next morning, strain the water and wash the eyes with it.
12. Putting one drop of honey in each eye once a week is also beneficial to the eyes as it cleans the eyes.
By following these tips, our eyes can be kept healthy and beautiful. These are beneficial for those having weak eyesight also.
