MUD THERAPY

Book Abstract by: Sindhumol

Original Author: Sindhumol
               Certain types of mud contain
a lot of minerals and plant residues which make them possess medicinal quality.  This has been discovered by the ancient Greeks who used different types of mud baths for treating various ailments.  The sources of the healing property of mud can be attributed to the health-giving plant substances and soil that  have been accumulated long years ago.  According to the type of plant material and mineral, the composition of the mud varies.  the mud therapy is believed to work through the beneficial components which penetrate the skin, entering blood flow thereby circulating through out the body.  Moreover, very fine nerve fibres in the outer skin also gets activated thereby stimulating the entire nervous system.  The abrasive drying action of mud over the skin helps in cleaning and invigorating effects of mud baths . This is similar to the effects of vigorous exercise, which increases the heart rate, encouraging sweating, speeding up the circulation thereby helping the body to ward off the impurities and toxins inside the body.  Thus mud therapy is highly beneficial in toning up the system.  Some mud extracts are given for drinking in order to relieve digestive disorders and stomach ulcers.  Mud therapy is also effective for treating specific disorders like skin problems, arthritis, rheumatism, infertility etc.
