Depression ,a common psychiatric  disorder in today''s stressful and highly competitve world,ranked
4th among all diseases in terms of disability adjusted life yearsand was projected to rank 2nd by 2020, according to W.H.O.In united states,lost productivity directly related to depression is estimated at $44 billion per yr.Many people feel like they have no energy and can''t concentrate. Others feel irritable all the time for no apparent reason. The symptoms vary from person to person, but if you feel "down" for more than two weeks, and these feelings are interfering with your daily life, you may be clinically depressed.symptoms are like constant feelings of sadness, irritability, or tension,decreased interest or pleasure in usual activities or hobbies,loss of energy, feeling tired despite lack of activity, a change in appetite, with significant weight loss or weight gain, a change in sleeping patterns, such as difficulty sleeping, early morning awakening, or sleeping too much etc.Most people who have gone through one episode of depression will, sooner or later, have another one.Most people with depression never seek help, even though the majority will respond to treatment.the two main types are: 1)reactive depression-caused by external factors like death of spouse,financial crisisetc.2)endogenous depression-caused by internal factors,chemical changes in brain,which is more difficult to treat and have bad prognosis.Treating depression is especially important because it affects you, your family, and your work.It is also associated with suicidal tendancies.Depression is a treatable illness.There are two main ways of therapy.1)medications2)psychotherapy.Both are used accordingly.Change won''t come overnight—but with the right treatment, you can keep depression from overshadowing your life.love and support of family and friends is the important thing in treatment and prevention of furher attacks.yoga and meditation also helps a lot in this illness.
