Withania somnifera commonly known as Ashwagandha is also known as Indian Ginseng. Alternatively it is also known
as winter cherry in English. Root is the major part which is highly medicinal and a number of alkaloids have been isolated from the plant which are showing good results in antibiotic and antitumor activities.
In Indian traditional systems plant has been used variously some of the common uses of plants and its parts are as follows:
  Paste prepared from the roots is used for curing skin diseases, bronchitis and ulcers. In general roots are mostly used for curing general and sexual debility.
 Decoction of roots along with milk and clarified butter is considered as a cure for femaile sterility if taken after the menstrual period.
