Fertilization

Book Abstract by: atin

Original Author: Dr Atindra Datta
Fertilization is an amazing event in the embryology. It is somuch fine tuned and guarded by the inbuilt preventive mechanisms
that no errors are expected to happen.
It requires the maturity  of sperms and Oocyte. The maturity involves the Primitive germ cells,e.g;spermatogonium or Oogonium  to undergo divisions by mitisis and meiosis to spermatozoons and Ovum when extra chromosomes are shed from 2n to n and haploids are produced, so that after fertilization 2n will be established.
It involves the morphological transformations as well so that a globular cell undergo mophological transformations to become a motile cell, for example a sperm. While a ovum undergo morphological change to earn some safeguards so that morethan one sperms cannot enter to fertilize it.
Fertlization is nothing but the meeting of sperm nucleus with the nucleus of Ovum. After entry into the ovum the nuclei are known as pronuclei who will meet each other and chromosomal exchange occur.
The fertilization entails the establishment of genetic number and evokes the cell division for further development.

Embriology is not a process, fertilization cannot be one of its events. Try "event of the developmental process". The only event when chromosomal exchange takes place is during meiosis I when homologous chromosomes are sorted.
