can never imagine a life without colors, thanks be to color vision. Though we see a variety of shades, tones and hues…basically it is the seven colors of the spectrum that stand as a base. We have learned how a beam of light contains all these seven colors in it. Its beyond doubt that when we look at each color it gives us different feel.Lets consider the therapeutic effect of colors on us.Each color has a certain level of energy and vibration which can be utilized for therapy just like how any other alternate medicine works. We can also name it as VIBGYOR therapy. Each color relates to a particular location of the body. Violet:-Crown chakra, at the top of the head relates to the brain and pineal gland.Indigo:-Brow chakra, the third eye;the centre of the forehead relates to the eyes, lower head, sinuses and pituitary gland.Blue:-Throat Chakra, the throat, lungs and thyroid gland, the upper digestive tract.Green:- Heart chakra, heart, breasts and thymus gland.Yellow:-Solar Plexus chakra, situated below the ribs relates to liver, spleen, stomach, small intestine and the pancreas.Orange:- Sacral chakra, uterus, large bowel, prostate, ovaries and testes.Red:- Base chakra, situated at the base of the spine relates to kidneys and bladder, the vertebral column, hips and legs and the adrenal gland. Violet relates to self knowledge or spiritual awareness. It is the union with your higher self, spirituality, and higher consciousness. It has a very calming effect so very helpful for curing sleep difficulties or stress disorders. Its contra-indicated for depressive disorders. Associated problems are Depression, Parkinson''s disease, Schizophrenia, Epilepsy, Senile dementia, Alzheimer''s , many mental disorders, confusion, dizziness.Violet is very helpful for meditation and spiritual matters.Indigo relates to self responsibility, responsibility to follow the soul''s path and needs and trusting one''s own intuition. It is also helpful for meditation as it relates to our intuition. It has an ability to see things from a ''higher'' viewpoint rather than purely for satisfaction of the ego. Intuitive messages are unique for your own personal growth and differ from the gut feelings.Problems relating to the brow chakra are tension headache, migraine, visual defects, short or long-sightedness, glaucoma, cataracts, sinus problems, some ear problems.Indigo is a sedative that helps to open up our intuition. Since it’s the colour of divine knowledge and the higher mind its not suitable for areas for entertainment. Some people find indigo helpful for studys so this colour could be used as part of the decor of a library or study.Blue relates to self expression, speech, communication. It’s the Spirit of truth and purpose.Related problems are thyroid problems, Anorexia nervosa(a multi-chakra problem), asthma, bronchitis, hearing problems, tinnitus(also connected to problems with the brow chakra), problems of upper digestive tract, mouth ulcers, sore throats, tonsillitis.Blue is calming, relaxing and healing, not as sedating as indigo. It can be used in any rooms except those used for physical activity or play. Green relates to love / self love, ability to give and take unconditionally.Problems related to heart chakra are heart diseases, diseases of Immune system; Aids and ME (myalgia encephalomyelitis, referred to as chronic fatigue syndrome or post viral syndrome), allergies, breast cancer. Green is a balancing colour, in the middle of the cool and warm colors. Green is the colour of harmony and can be helpful in times of stress. For one experiencing a trauma, a green silk wrapped around the shoulders can have a very therapeutic effect. Yellow relates to self worth. It resonates with how we feel about ourselves and how we feel others perceive us. This is the area of the personality, the ego, the intellect and self confidence. Associated problems are diabetes, pancreatitis, liver disease, peptic ulcer, Coeliac''s disease, gall stones. It has a stimulating effect and is helpful to gain concentration. situated in the lower abdomen.Orange relates to self respect; having the ability to give ourselves the freedom to be ourselves and respect our own boundaries and requirements thus respecting the boundaries of others. Orange is the colour of creativity.Problems relating to sacral chakra are pre-menstrual syndrome, problems with menstrual flow, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, irritable bowel syndrome, endometriosis, testicular disease, prostatic disease.. Orange is the least popular and the sacral chakra seem to be an area which people find difficult to work on. It stimulates and energizes us, and is warming.Orange is the colour of fun and sociability and can be used in any activity and creative areas. It is not ideal for bedrooms or areas of possible stress. Red relates to self awareness; our awareness of ourselves as human beings and our place on earth. It is the area of survival and relates to our basic human instincts of fight or flight. Red gives us courage and strength and relates to stability and security. Related problems are constipation, diarrhea, piles, colitis, Crohn''s disease, cold fingers and toes, frequency of urination, hypertension, kidney stones, impotence, problems with hips, legs and feet. It is stimulating and energising therefore helpful for tiredness and lethargy, to stimulate low blood pressure.Red should not be used on anyone with high blood pressure;pink may be used instead. Red excites the emotions, and can stimulate the appetite. It can be used in any activity area but needs careful choice of tone, depth and space. It makes a space look claustrophobic and oppressive or warm and cosy depending on the variation.
