The oil extracted from kacholam tubers is
used for flavoring curries, confectionaries, soaps, perfumes cosmetics, agarbathis etc. Oil also exhibits larvicidal, fungicidal and anticncerous properties. Plant juice and leaf juice are useful for relieving the irritation caused by insects. They are also used for the preparation of hair wash due to antidandruff activity. Leaves form a major ingredient of lotions and medicines for rheumatism, sore eye, sore throat etc.
