Advantages of Molecular Farming (Pharming):

1.        The plants can be grown locally, and cheaply using the standard methods of a given region.
2.        Plants have the capacity to produce abundant biomass and recombinant immunogens can be produced in their tissues.
3.        Edible vaccines and therapeutic (medical )proteins can be produced in a large scale at cheap rate.
4.        Infections due to the use of syringes can be eliminated.
5.        Refrigeration cost can be avoided.
6.        Potential transfer of animal viruses as by product of vaccine production in animal cells is eliminated by recombinant production in plants.
7.        Plants can be engineered for multiple foreign genes to develop multicomponent vaccines. plant vaccines are more safe, versatile and stable than animal or recombinant vaccines. Vaccines for AIDS, Hepatitis-B etc. can be produced cheaply.
8.        In plants production of subunit vaccines (contain no genes, just proteins derived from them) is very easy.
