The Water We Drink--How Long Does it Stay in the Body?

Many think that when we drink a glass of water, the water will be flown out of the body in the form of urine at the same day. Actually, the water we drink will be in the body for 10 – 50 days and will be flown out of the body 50 days later.

The water in the body runs through three processes: it is absorbed, channeled and renewed. When water enters the digestive tract, it will go through capillaries and blood vessels and runs in the blood cell. The water will reach the cell in 5 minutes, and then it flows and spread in and around the cell organ. When water has entered the plasma, then it goes into the whole body through blood cell.

An expert said that water was macro nutrient that body needs in a large amount like carbohydrate, fat and protein. The published survey in European Journal of Applied Physiology in 2011 found that the water remained in the body for 10 – 50 days. It further stated that water that we consumed stays in the body for 10 days, and after that it goes out of the body through urine, sweat, breathing vapors and feces.

”The latest water we drink would be out of the body 50 days later. So, it is not true that if we drink water today, it will be out of the body today as well. The water that is out of the body today is the water we drank 50 days ago”, said Dr. Tatik

According to her, the more water we drink, the quicker the water in the body is replenished. It means that water we drink today will replace the water that was previously stored in the body. If we drink 2 liters, the two liters that will be out is the one that was in the body before. Not the water that we drink today.

If we look at how water travels in the body and the time it takes to be released out of the body, we must make sure that the water that we drink should be of high quality. Not all water is good for kidneys. According to Dr Parlin, healthy water should be clear, tasteless, odorless, and low in germ content. Calcium and magnesium should be low as well.
