Butyl benzyl
phthalmate (BBP) is a chemical substance which is widely
used in
cosmetic industries. Recent
studies have shown that BBP can induce health
hazards like breast cancer. The Phthalmate family of
chemicals are mainly used
to soften plastic and are found in food packs ,toys, carpets ,lipsticks, nail
polish etc Scientists at Fox Chase Cancer centre in Philadelphia say BBP and
related chemicals can accumulate in our fat cells and increase the risk of
cancer Researchers at University of Rochester,New York reported that
women with higher levels of phthalmate breakdown chemicals or metabolites in their urine
were more likely to give birth to boys with under developed sexual organs.
Women’s Environmental Network said Phthalmates are present in four out of five cosmetic
products on sale in Britain.
