Woman alive, but declared dead
To err is human is undoubtedly a true statement, but mistake in certain act cannot be tolerated at any cost. A living person undergoing treatment and recovering is issued a death certificate is beyond apprehensible. Person or persons involved in this type of mistake should be punished appropriately, so that the same type of mistake is not happened again.
Mariam Bibi, the patient, was admitted in the SSKM hospital and was under treatment. Her relatives had to go through the trauma due to a wrong death certificate in the SSKM government hospital, Kolkata, which is considered one of the important hospitals of the government in the state capital. It is not only a tertiary referral hospital for the government; it is also a national research institute. The ward master, who is responsible for this act, though, has apologized, that should not be taken as the end of the matter keeping in mind that serious implication may arise due to this type of mistake. There is no mention of any comment of any political leader so far; hence, it could be presumed that the matter was taken lightly.
Some posts in any organization are of added importance, and these posts must have qualified and wise people to maintain check and balance to avoid blunders like this. Government departments, whether hospitals or any other area, all sorts of mistakes can happen irrespective of their seriousness, because of government employees’ irresponsible attitude of working.
