Women all around the world have various roles to maintain- that of a mother, a daughter-in-law, a wife and a friend. To maintain all the responsibilities becomes a rare achievement considering the stress levels that they are subjected to. But, women are considered to be strong and fulfill all the roles beautifully. But a time comes, when a change occurs in every woman that not only affects her physically, but also mentally. Such a change comes with “Menopause”, the horror word for many. What is menopause? “Menopause”, a word that brings negative feelings in the minds of women all over the world, is it really so daunting? No, it is not. Menopause can also be comprehended as a state in woman’s life after which she can lead life in her own terms. No worries about monthly cycles and problems related to it. By the time, a woman gets menopause, her life is settled, children grown up and major responsibilities almost over. Menopause occurs anytime after mid forties in women. The average age is around 50 years. Understanding menopause is not so difficult. Meno means menstruation and pause means an end. Hence, menopause means end of menstruation in females. The two major functions of female ovaries are: producing eggs and generating hormones called estrogen and progesterone, which are essential for the process of reproduction.
Menopause puts ovaries to rest. But, this is not an overnight process. This changeover takes place over months or years. The common symptoms of menopause include missing periods, or heavier flow than usual, hot flushes, mood fluctuations, confusion, vagina dryness, panic attacks, palpitations, joint pains, sleeplessness and sometimes depression. But, all these could be prevented with proper care. It is possible to enjoy healthy lifestyle even after menopause. Proper rest, balanced diet and regular exercise help a lot. It has been established that food products such as soy and yoga exercises help in preventing the symptoms of menopause. Therefore, menopause brings an end to one phase of a woman’s life, and not to life itself. So, do not just exist, but live life even after menopause as it also brings a new beginning, a beginning of carefree life!
