Births before thirty-seven weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period are termed to as “premature birth”. For the normal due date is about forty weeks. This huge global health issue poses great effect to the pregnant woman; families and the nation as whole for it affect the size of the population of the country.
Statistical result reveals thirteen million out of total birth in a year around the world are premature. These babies tends to have problems such as brain, breathing and digestive complication owing to the fact that the organs were not properly formed before birth then suffer delay in development and learning in most case death. The earlier in pregnancy a child is born the more health problems.
Preterm birth can be as a result of stress, sexual transmitted diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, alcohol and smoking, drug abuse, pregnancy form a single fetus among others.
Also certain condition like, short period between pregnancies, pregnant woman with twins, triple or more, women with uterine or cervical abnormalities, bleeding from the virginal etc also attributes.
Preterm birth can be prevented by simple learning their cause, symptoms and adhering to medical advice.
Antenatal care and checkup and finally corticosteroid drugs have help to such effect.
