Breast cancer is the uncontrolled growth of breast cells, it begins in the milk producing glands and over time the cancer cells invade nearby healthy tissue and make their way to the lymph nodes. This can later spread to the rest of the body. Breast cancer occurs in both men and women although it is more common in women than men. It is one of the leading causes of death of women between the ages of 20 to 59.
The causes are not certain are usually caused by a genetic abnormality inherited form either the side of the mother or the father or as a result of the normal process of ageing. Breast cancer can be easily treated if it is detected early late detection can bring a lot of complications making it very hard to treat. The most common signs include lymph (something hard in the breast). Breast swolleing redness or enlarged under arm lymph node are also common. Sometimes the nipple also discharges a blood stained or a milky white substance. Although not all lymph may be cancerous to be on the safe side you should let the doctor check you out and verify it.
The habit of checking your Breasts regularly will not do you any harm at all. The following steps can be done as self examination for breast cancer.
1. Examine your Breasts in the mirror with your arms down, up and down, and down no your hips.
2. Stand and press your fingers on your Breasts working around the breasts in a circular direction say clockwise.
3. Then lay on your back and repeat step 2.
4. Squeeze your nipples to check for any discharge. If there is visit your doctor.
Lades should check their breasts before and after their menstrual periods cause some lymphs can come before and after menstrual period.
If you can’t do self examination a visit to the doctor at least once a month is strongly advised.
