This article, by Henci Goer, is chock-full of information concerning Cesarean section childbirth. Cesarean section is often
referred to as C-section. Most of the time, C-sections are performed under epidural anesthesia unless it is an
emergency. If the baby is in distress, indicated by the baby's heart rate, the C-section would be considered an emergency. Many times, a women's doctor will schedule a C-section as her pregnancy nears term. When having a C-section, there is some preparation to be made. First, as with any surgery, an IV will be started. Next, some pubic hair will need to be shaved from the incision area and a bladder catheter will be inserted. Blood pressure and heart rate will be monitored throughout the surgery. Henci's
article examines all aspects of C-section procedures from the surgery itself to when a C-section is necessary or not. This is a good read in layman's terms and easily understandable and informative.
