What is OBESITY? Obesity can simply be described as serious overweight because of body fat. Height-weight tables can give an approximate guideline as to whether a person is overweight or has passed into the obese stage.
However, these don’t account for differences in body composition. For example, an athlete is likely to have more weight due to muscle mass and large bone structure, and so not be overweight.
So what are the basic cause of obesity? Obesity can be could be hereditary or caused by environmental pressures on the sufferer. Though much research has now been done on human genes and obesity, sophisticated techniques are being used to identify genes that predisposes people to weight gain and to diseases like diabetes.
This means that a major factor in obesity is still the person’s life style. The person may take in more calories than he or she can expend in a day or consumes wrong kind of meals on a regular basis or have no schedule for daily moderate exercise. Your heredity doesn’t mean you’re destined to be fat…No matter what your genes say, it is ultimately your choice in nutrition and activities that will determine your weight.
Are you overweight or an obese? You can determine that by your self now. Your BMI (Body Mass Index) can help you to know if you are overweight or an obese.
A BMI rating of 18.5 to 24.9 is considered the healthiest. If your BMI is between 25 and 29.9 then you are overweight. Anything over a BMI of 30 is OBESE. How do you check out your status, you don’t need a doctor to do that for you. To calculate your BMI, take your weight in kilograms, divide it by your height in meters, then divide the result by your height in meters again. For example, if you weigh 90 kilograms and are 1.8 meters tall, your BMI is 28 (90/1.8/1.8=28)

The table below will assist you.
