Osteoporosis

: Osteoporosis is a common bone disorder characterized by a progressive decrease in bone density and mass. As a result, bones become thin, weakened, and easily fractured. Prevention of osteoporosis Exercise regularly,Quit smoking,Drink only moderate amounts of alcohol,Eat a well-balanced diet,Take extra calcium and vitamin D. Deal Osteoporosis in accordance with Diet and Exercise The question is Why not HRT?Reason:HRT does reduce the risk of Osteoporosis. But even HRT can’t work miracles and besides, it doesn’t suit everyone.Which is why it’s so important to pay attention to our lifestyle. So I ll advice: eat sensibly, get some exercise and watch the weight

Presenting the reason with ACase Study_Patient’s History: (Comment)

The patient visited the doctor for her routine checkup of pregnancy, during which she reports that her physician advised her to practice contraception, as this was the third time and the other two children were born with a caesarian section. More over every time she reported anemic conditions. Due to which she was advised to get her fallopian tubes tied. After the birth of her third child she underwnet a tubal ligation.A week later she visited the doctor for her routine checkup for the removal of stitches at this visit she complained of having no or irregular bleeding since C section. As well as she complained of abdominal pain. As she comments, the nurse kept on aspirating the pus oozing out of her stitches but didn’t inform her of the actual situation. She again complained that on urination and menstruation she observes bulky masses, which the physician neglected again. And prescribed her analgesics for relief of pain. Later on she was taken to (Name undisclosed) Hospital in emergency, late night with an extremely low blood pressure and extensive abdominal cramps. There she was given symptomatic treatment. The following day Blood CP and Urine Faeces were tested. Results showed that epithelial cast cells were observed in the Faeces; whereas Blood Cp showed 9.5 Hb count and 13.7 WBC count. No parasite observed and was remarked Neutrophil Leucocytosis and mild Eosinophilia. Other bacteriology and clinical reports stood clear or not more pronounced The radiology report as attached helped in further diagnosis. Another Surgery was carried out to remove the abscess seen in Ultra sound and CT scans. At exposure of the uterus it was observed that the abscesses reported in Ultra Sound and CT scan were actually pieces of both the ovaries and the uterus along with pieces of cotton pads, the ovaries were completely putrefied and had formed lumpy masses. cotton pads were left inside the body which later on disturbed the menstrual cycle and worsen the condition further. Presently she s spending a more or less normal life, her uterus and both of her ovaries are being removed. She has been prescribed to take steroid hormones to over come their deficiency in the body due to the removal of uterus but due to certain misconceptions about steroid hormones in our society and persistent annoying adverse effects she is not following her prescriptions as she claimed of extreme hot flashes during the medication. Consequently she’s facing the problem of Osteoporosis.

The question for her safety is ...How to treat Osteoporosis by diet and exercise!

Exercise and Bone Health :Vital at every age for healthy bones, exercise is important for treating and preventing osteoporosis. Not only does exercise improves bone health, it also increases muscle strength, coordination, and balance, and leads to better overall health.

Why Exercise?Like muscle, bone is living tissue that responds to exercise by becoming stronger. Young women and men who exercise regularly generally achieve greater peak bone mass (maximum bone density and strength) than those who do not. For most people, bone mass peaks during the third decade of life. After that time, we can begin to lose bone. Women and men older than age 20 can help prevent bone loss with regular exercise. Exercising allows us to maintain muscle strength, coordination, and balance, which in turn help to prevent falls and related fractures. This is especially important for older adults and people who have been diagnosed with osteoporosis.

The Best Bone Building Exercise

The best exercise for bones is the weight-bearing kind, which forces to work against gravity. Some examples of weight-bearing exercises include:lifting weights, walking, hiking, jogging, climbing stairs, tennis, dancing.Even squeezing a tennis ball sitting on an arm chair can be helpful..Examples of exercises that are not weight-bearing include, swimming, bicycling.

While these activities help build and maintain strong muscles and have excellent cardiovascular benefits, they are not the best way to exercise your bones.

Calcium supplementation in osteoporosis: The first step in preventing or treating osteoporosis is ensuring adequate nutrition, particularly maintaining a sufficient daily intake of calcium, a mineral essential for bone strength, and vitamin D, which aids in calcium metabolism and absorption. Calcium supplements are better absorbed when taken in small doses (500 mg or less) several times throughout the day. In many individuals, calcium supplements are better absorbed when taken with food.

CONCLUSION:Building strong bones is like building a house. We don’t just need bricks (calcium), we also need mortar, plaster, tiles and wood. Or else it’ll collapse AND THESE MORTAR, PLASTER IS EXERCISE WHERE THE TILING AND WOODEN FIXTURES MAY REQUIRE AN HRT OR ERT TOO ..but tht soley depends on your physician's advice!!
