DNA

Book Abstract by: kamala

Original Author: lakshmi

Introduction
Population genetics is important in that it helps to
know about the facts of human evolution
and in the medical research. The
nucleic acid that stores the entire genetic information on the functions and
development of the living organisms is DNA or deoxyribose nucleic acid. Iceland
is an isolated country with few migrations from the other countries of the
world. The population is homogenous with decimated repeatedly by famines,
natural disasters and diseases More than two lakhs of the resident people of
Iceland are pure-bred and their DNA is an ideal choice for a genetic study.
Researchers are enthusiastic for this study as this vast database would help in
the discovery of new pattern of diseases and new type of drugs. Majority of the
Iceland population share a small group of ancestors that make them an
interesting group for research studies. In such a homogenous gene pool, it is
easy to conduct on some individual variations as it is relatively easy to
isolate them. These variations help in unraveling the complex causes of some
important diseases. It becomes an advantage when a research gets the
genealogical data to study the DNA of a group. Genealogy is an important part
of the culture of a country. It is relatively easy to identify the single defective
gene that is linked to a disease in the inbred populations than the out bred
populations. As the population of Iceland is inbred, the genetic research in
them is a matter of interest to the researchers. The disasters minimized the
input of the new gene into the gene pool of the country’s population. The
people of the country have passion for keeping the records of their genealogy.
In human genetics of the present day a homogenous population with a great
genealogy and medical records is rare. The factors such as cultural heritage
and family lineage define a population. The population of Iceland is pure-bred
and well educated, other than this, the health care in the country has high
quality with good medical record system. For its research project, a biomedical
company deCODE was permitted by the government of Iceland to access the well
maintained database of the national health records. The aim the research is to
search some important genes associated with diseases, and it is the right
choice to use the genealogy of the population of Iceland. Write your abstract here.
