An egg, a day,in the regular diet of a person,keeps him fit throughout the day.Next to milk, egg can be rated as the most complete food for a man, for its sheer nutritional value. Egg is a natural food packed with all the essential pre-requisites for a man to sustain life.Egg has an universal recognition for its outstanding nutritional qualities.A single egg weighing 60 gm ,taken in a diet,will provide 4 % of one's energy requirements, because it has 6 gm of protein,5gm of fat,providing 75 calories of energy.Protein occupies 12.5 % weight of an egg and the protein primarily lies in the yolk, but mostly in the albumen.Among the food items that we consume, egg can be classified as a 'multifaceted nutrient' forits rich content of proteins,an average of 6.5 gm per egg, vitamins like A,B vitamins,D and E, totalling 13 in number, except C,minerals like phospate and Iodine,providing 19 % of one's requirements, Zinc and.Selenium,10 % of one's requirements,iron, 7 % to 11 % of one's need, calcium and sodium, 4.5 % of one's need,pottassium, copper and chlorine, 3 % of one's need,and choline,an essential mineral, very vital for memory and brain development of a person.Above all, the cholesterol and fat contained in an egg, 11 % of the contents of the egg, provides 213 mg of cholesterol, which is equivalent to 71 % daily requirement of a healthy person.In order to avoid cholesterol one can have unlimited number of white, which is bereft of cholesterol.To cap it all,eggs help to protect a person from becoming blind,a degenerative disease, because anti-oxidants like lutein and zeaxanthin, protect against oxidative damage and degeneration in the eyes. .Therefore, we can even call " an egg is a complete food ", at par with milk.
