Overweight treatment

The modern trend for takeaways and fast foods has been partly to blame for a so many people being Overweight these days – so much so that it is estimated that as much as 63% of the inhabitants of the United States suffer from this problem. It’s not just the United States either – just take a few moments to glance around the next time you go out shopping, and see how many people in your hometown are suffering from this misfortune. Being overweight means that you have too high a proportion of body fat. There are several ways of measuring how much over the average you are, and the oldest and most traditional of these is by a simple age:height:weight ratio that has been tabulated over the years, and can be found in many medical publications. The simplest way of measuring the amount of body fat though is by means of a pair of callipers. These are used to measure a folded layer of skin at different points of the body. This measures the amount of under-skin fat, and though not foolproof it does give a good indication of the overall amount of fat. Hundreds of different diets or treatments have been promoted over the years, some of them good, and some of them indifferent. Crash dieting, indeed any form of dieting treatment, can cause the body to be deficient in certain essential vitamins and other vital foodstuffs, and most chemists and supermarkets have a number of different products that are essential to the body during a diet.

With so many different diets and ways of losing weight its difficult to decide which one is for you. Last week I heard about a man who had lost over 200kgs in a year but still has to be lifted out of his house by a crane – I can’t say which Diet he was on though. The most important thing to keep in mind, whatever diet you have decided upon, is that it is highly likely that you are going to end up with a deficiency of some sort, and so it is important that you make this deficiency up by taking some form of dietary supplement to make up for that shortage.
