Obesity can be defined as the accumulation of adipose tissues in the body resulting in an increase in 20% of desirable body weight.The
main factors are:genetic factors,eating habits,age and sex,physical activity,endocrine functions,trauma of hypothalamus and psychological factors.We can modify the diet to
reduce weight.The diet should be
low in calories,0.8-1 g of protein,low carbohydrates especially roots and tubers , low in
fat and rich in fibre, vitamins and minerals .Fibre has a great function as it provide satiety , helps in regulating bowel movements and help to reduce weight.Physical exercise is also needed to burn the fat that are stored in the body.Behaviour modification is also very important.There are three components:self monitoring, stimulus control, and techniques for self -reward.The main impact of obesity on health are:physical disability,metabolic disorders, obstetrial risk, cancer and psychological disturbances.
