Simple Tips for Better Vision
Our eyes are two of our most precious possessions- yet we take good
eyesight as granted. Few tips to keep good vision:
Eat fish twice a week as fish are a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids. It helps to reduce the risk of dry-eye syndrome. If you don’t like fish, you can take fish-oil supplement.
Always wear goggles when swimming or any other activities requiring it at work. When swimming it protects the eye from the chlorine and if worn at work in a construction area it prevents debris from causing corneal abrasions.
Aim your car vents down at your feet and not in your eyes. The air from air-conditioning will suck the moisture out of your eyes and make them become dry. Serious dryness can lead to corneal abrasions and to the extreme blindness.
Cook using red onions instead of yellow ones. Red onions are known to contain more quercetin, an antioxidant that protects the eyes against cataracts.
Put on sunglasses when going out as they protect the eyes against the glare of the sun as well as the drying effect caused by the wind.
Have sweet potatoes for dinner as they are rich in Vitamin A which improves night vision.
Remove eye make-up every night as this will prevent small pieces of make-up from winding up in your eyes which can cause scratching your cornea.
Use fresh towel when wiping your face. Sharing of towels is a guaranteed way to get highly contagious eye infection called conjunctivitis.
Wear a large hat or cap together with the sunglasses. It will help in blocking UV rays that may enter your eyes from around the goggles.
Have spinach twice a week as it contains a nutrient named lutein which may prevent age-related macular degeneration and cataracts.
When you are working or reading, set your alarm to beep every 30 minutes as a reminder to look up and away to a distant point for at least 30 seconds. It helps prevent eyestrain.
Check your blood pressure every month as high blood pressure if unchecked can damage vessels in the eye.
Dad an essential oil of jasmine, vanilla on your arm and sniff as research has shown that it increases the beta waves in the frontal lobes of our brain. It enables you to focus better and see things more accurately. It also stimulates the limbic system in our brain, which in turn stimulates the rods in your eyes that help see in dim light.
Grey or amber sunglasses? Grey lenses as causes less colour distortion which is important when driving.
Walk at least four times per week since research shows it reduces the intraocular pressure in people with glaucoma.
Use herbs and spices instead of usual table salt. A diet rich in salt increases the risk of certain types of cataracts.
