Actress ...oh bomshell Bipasha Basu was tempararily blinded
for a few days recently.from a severe allergic attack due to pollen and eye make-up . The actress said she has an allergy to dust, pollen and eye make-up and needs medication before applying any kind of make-up to her eyes.
.... and you know that It's not just Bips who has to take care - opthalmologists say they are rising cases of infection related to eye make=up , spacifically kajal, among delhites.many Indians belive kajal is good for the eyes but specislists say it can blind you. Dr. Lalit Kumar, an eye surgeon at Apollo Hospitals says, " we don't advocate kajal at all. There is no guarantee of purity , the chemicals used can be toxic ," Dr. Kumar says the use of sticks or metallic instruments to apply kajal may couse demage to the cornea and lead to blindness .
.... same way Dr.S.K. Mishra of AIIMS, explains that kajal blocks the tearglands,which can cause recurring sties." It can lead to the Dry Eye syndrome, where the tear glands cannot produce adequate tears, which can cause ulcers on the cornea and may lead to blinding consequences."
Dr, Sanjay Dhawan, an eye-spacialist concurs that kajal is harmful and says, " It's like willingly putting dust inside your eyes."
Those who cannot leave home withought their eye make-up , can take heart. Opthalmologist Dr. Naveen Sakuja says kajal can be " reasonably safe" as long as the applicators are not shared , as that transfers infection, and the make-up is cleaned throughly at night . And though the reiterates that kajal has no benefits , he says , " pure carbon is not harmful anyway.If one has to use kajal they should either make it themselves or buy from good makes."
