For the new born baby, the best feed is mother''s milk. For the first 15 days it is better to feed your baby once in one or two hours.

You should have a very good diet. If you are a non-vegetarian then you can have a mutton soup early in the morning in empty stomach. You can have chicken, fish, egg, mutton atleast thrice a week, since they are rich in protein. Dried fishes are very good for lactating mothers. It helps to increase the level of milk. Have atleast 3 glasses of milk every day because your baby''s bones are growing and they need lots of calcium. Also vegetables, friuts and dry fruits are essential in your diet. Do not bother about your weight gain. when your baby grows, automatically your weight willl be lost.

If you are a vegetarian, then you should have atleast 3-4 glasses of milk, lots of vegetables and fruits daily. Also dry fruits (cashewnuts, almonds, pista) are essential in your diet. Here are two tips : 1. Make raw papaya as vegetable and have it once in a week. 2. Fry 200 gms of peeled garlic in ghee or sesame oil till it cooks and then add grated palm jaggery and take it atleast thrice a week. Following these two tips, you can yourself see the increase in amount of milk in your breasts.
Even though you are having a very good diet, sometimes you may see that the baby is not fed properly. but don''t go for a supplement till your baby is 6 months. This is because your baby grows suddenly in one or two days. So the intake of your baby is more than, it secreets in your breasts. When your baby goes on sucking your breasts, the amount of milk will automatically increase according to your baby''s intake only if you have a proper diet.
