Baby
skin is very tender and sensitive and needs adequate
care during winter. For proper skin care, give your
baby a bath daily. Never shy away from
bathing the baby due to the cold climate. A Good bath is the best cleaning exercise which freshens up the spirit and removes the weariness of limbs.
SUN-BATHING: A sun-bath is a veritable tonic for the baby. It makes the child happy, healthy, bonny and blithe. But be careful while exposing the child to the winter sunshine, particularly if it happens to be his/her first winter. Expose the baby to
SUN rays for a couple of minutes first, gradually increasing the time limit. The best time is before 11.00 a.m. and after 3.00 p.m. Massaging the baby’s
body with oil before exposing him to the sun is a healthy practice. Keep the baby’s head in shade and make lie down on his belly so that only the rest of the body is exposed. Never expose the baby’s eyes to strong rays of light as it affects his/her eyesight adversely.
WATER: Take special care of the temperature of the water in which the child is to be bathed. Extra
warm water can increase the danger of exposure to cold. The ideal practice is to bathe the baby with tolerably warm water. You can also add a few drops of some antiseptic lotion to the bathing water.
SOAP: According to doctors, it’s not necessary to bathe the baby with a special soap. Always use a mild soap. Use an extra soft towel which soaks the water and opens the skin pores. After wiping the skin dry, sprinkle the baby’s body with talcum powder. Dress him/her up in warm, cosy, loose and comfortable clothes. Apply a baby cream or lotion to the exposed parts of the body.
