Basic Introductory manual on computerized tomography

Book Abstract by: AntonioCarvalho

Original Author: ROBSON FERNANDO QUIDIQUIMO FANTON
The manual witch I’m going to talk about is basically self-explanatory. It concerns about themes on computerized tomography
like: definition; history; computerized tomography’s history; physic principles, differences in TC machines, principles of matrix calculus; cut planes, Houns Field scale, contrast; use of anaesthetics or sedation, among many others, and, with thought specifications on every studied item. On the introductory part we have the definition as a radiological method that allows the reproduction of an human cut with the purpose of seeing and study its anatomic structures, etc. It is important to notice that the anatomy on CT differs from the one studied conventionally because of its axial nature. After that comes a basic digest about the way that this image diagnostic method was discovered and developed, until it reached its current stage, indispensable and ultra modern, improving continuously. Further up, and not less important, we found the definition of the physic principles has a method of radiological densities measures of the volumes from a cut. Methods that need to be supported by a conventional radiological image (a initial sweep done to determine the cut planes). On this same chapter there are explanations on detectors: what they are, and what they do inside this complex system. Also it shows us the difference between CT machines generations (quantity of detectors, tube type, size of the X-Ray beam, etc); first, second, third, fourth and the new generation of machines. It explains a little about the utilization, risks and benefits of contrast use and, has the advantage of talking about the anaesthetist interventions. When it is needed or dispensable? Among different proposed situations it shows specifically when is possible and in what situations can the aesthetic or sedation is performed. Among those situations we have as an example: restrain promotion in agitated, confused or paediatrics’ patients; following of allergic or depended of devices or mechanical breading patients. And, finally has all the manuals on the market it describes a few more details about physic, positioning and routine exams protocols.
