Last night I happened to watch a Pakistani movie after a long, long time and surprisingly it was a wonderful experience.
Produced and directed by Shoaib Mansoor Khuda Kay Liye tends to be a fairly diverse movie with a very fresh story line. The film was excellently filmed placed in a beautiful backdrop. The scenes were all in order and nothing seem to be out of place. The story revolves around pre and post 9/11 attacks and its impact on the Muslims all over. Based on two brothers Mansoor(Shan) and Sarmad(Fawad). They are musicians by profession and are very prosperous in the field. Sarmad is highly affected by a maulvi because of his friend and slowly starts keeping himself away from
music and other activities, whereas Sarmad’s brother goes to America to join a music school where after 9/11 he is arrested secretly by the FBI for investigation because of false accusations against him. They also have a cousin living in UK whose father brings her to
Pakistan in order to save her from marrying a Christian boy whereas he himself lives with Christian women. The story revolves around these 3 characters and how misconceptions and mistakes made by other make them suffer and how they get out of it. It has also raised several important questions about if Islam allows Music, the importance of beard and costumes in Islam, the questions about jihad. It also portrays that the basic problem that Muslims face is due to lack of knowledge about the heart and soul of Islam. The music is excellent, truly commenting with the story line. And why not, it has been directed by the ultimate musical genius Shoaib Mansoor with help provided by the music industry of Pakistan. All in all a must watch.
