MITHYA-Bollywood Movie Review

Movie Summary by: puja

Original Author: Puja Garg
Mithya directed by Rajat Kapoor has an interesting cast. The extremely talented Ranvir Sheorey is in a double
role along with Neha Dhupia as the female lead. Naseeruddin Shah, Vinay Patak, Saurabh Shukla, Brijendra Kala and Harsh Chhaya form the rest of the cast. The promos aired on television are a bit misleading.
VK (Ranvir Sheorey) is a struggling Bollywood actor with realistic dreams. Fate has something in store for him, which will change his life forever. His face is an exact-replica of an Underworld don. So VK gets a chance to act in real. A role, which is full of action, drama, romance, deceit, betrayal… and which indeed could be life threatening.
The first half of Mithya is handled well by director Rajat Kapoor. The subtle comedy along with several well scripted sequences make for an engrossing yet entertaining watch. Also there are quite a few twists and turns in the first half and its hard to predict, just what could happen next. At the end of the first half, your left with great expectations, but unfortunately, the second half isnt gripping. Humor is completely lacking and so are the twists.. The climax too proved to be a major disappointment. The background music is too loud, so loud that sometimes you might miss a few dialogues! The writing (Rajat Kapoor, Saurabh Shukla) is great and so is the Cinematography.
Ranvir Sheorey is brilliant! He carries the movie with great comic timing, expressions and body language. Neha Dhupia is surprisingly good. Naseeruddin Shah in a supporting role with no scope for histrionics, does well. Saurabh Shukla and Brijendra Kala are good. One complaint I had with Bheja Fry was Ranvir Sheorey had a very small role. Its Vinay Patak’s turn here, he is literally in a guest appearance and yet manages to make an impact.
It is a typical underworld story but the most attractive feature of the entire movie is the excellent portrayal of the two conflicting characters played by Ranvir in real life in the story. I would say a must watch film for upcoming media professionals. Rajat Kapoor’s direction is also worth commending. I enjoyed it completely.
