There was a moment when I wondered if a Sunday afternoon matinee show would ever pass me by and I would be forever recalling
the best all time buy in recent years for my Movie Collection which is of course Casablanca .. Its such an offer in terms of movies on DVD that I was specially fortunate to buy it just at the time it was here in the South.
The scenes are shot in black and white and there is a wonderfully nostalgic feeling to that period of movie making and someone the colour missing notion doesnt really affect one's overall appreciation of this great movie.
The stars are ... Humprhey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman and Paul Henreid ... in childhood it was my favourite TV matinee film ... the plot is fascinating .. Casablanca is easy to enter but hard to leave if your name is on the Nazi most-wanted list. The characters are .. a top Czech Resistance Leader Victor Laszlo - played by Paul Henreid, Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart)a cynical American who runs Ricks Cafe and then last but not least Ilsa Victor's Wife played by Ingrid Bergman the ex lover who broke his heart ... who offers her life in exchange for the escape plan of Victor Laszlo - Rick decides his priorities and Laszlo and Ilsa escape .... winner of 3 academy awards .. great viewing .. keep on working .
