A very interesting night's viewing regarding the movie The Jazz Singer starring Neil Diamond and Laurence Oliver and the
film is based on the true story of Al Jolson ... the songs are still fresh even though the film is somewhat dated but the themes emerge as strong and defiant.
Some strong acting from Laurence Olivier in the role of the traditional Jewish Orthodoxy with the errant son played by Neil Diamond focused here as the main and central role relationship in the movie.
The scenes are buoyant and brilliant and the stage shows are particularly well handled in the film considering its quite a while since .. Love On The Rocks .. was a well known song sung by Neil Diamond but I guess its an eternally perfect song and as such it holds the audience in the palm of the hands of the singer Neil Diamond.
I enjoyed it enormously and found the contrast with modern life an important teaching theme and it would be useful in the context of the seminar room to draw attention to the views of that time which rocked the film with its high tension acting from Laurence Olivier especially and his Jewish son played by Neil Diamond. Great film .. keep on viewing ...
