Chad and Taylor feel guilty about what they had done and they decide to tell them the truth. They also decide to help
him with the call-backs. Yet, even though they tell Gabriella the truth she is still hurt about what troy said. That night, troy goes to her house, but she pretends to do homework. Yet, Troy calls Gabriella on her cell phone and tells her that he is more like the person she met in the party than that who said those stupid things. He climbs her balcony and starts singing the harmony of “Start Of Something New” to persuade her to come to the call-backs. Gabriella forgives him and they start practicing for the call-back at school.
Soon, Sharpay and Ryan overhear troy and Gabriella singing. Sharpay succeeds by convincing Ms Darbus to change the call-backs to the same time as the basketball championship and scholastic decathlon. Kelsey overhears their conversation with Ms Darbus and when she tells everyone they all become devastated. However, the chemistry and basketball team come up with a plan. On the day, Taylor and Gabriella send a code by computer into the system to disrupt the basketball game by shutting down the score board and boiling a hazardous chemical to stall the decathlon. While Gabriella and Troy rush to the theatre, Sharpay and Ryan finish performing their song (“Bop To The Top”). Troy and Gabriella show up after their names were called out twice and she tells them that they are too late. Many students start entering the theatre and Ms Darbus allows them to perform after having no choice. When Gabriella sees the audience staring at her she freezes. But troy tells her to look at him only. She then sings with troy (“Breaking Free”). In the end, Ms Darbus awards troy and Gabriella the lead roles. At the basketball game, Sharpay accepts her defeat and tells Gabriella to do her best. Troy and Gabriella successfully win the scholastic decathlon and basketball game they try to kiss but are interfered by Chad. The entire school enter the gym to celebrate (“Were All In This Together”).
