Deepak ( Raj Babbar ) and Shaila ( Anita Raaj) fall in love with each other. They plan to marry. But Shaila's brother does
not approve this match., since Deepak belongs to a millionaire family. Under the circumstances Shaila persuades Deepak to accomplish the marriage soonest possible. But Deepak bound by family responsibilities cannot for his marriage before the marriages of his two step sisters.
Apparently the family is well to do. The mother of the family too believes that she is a part of a very rich family. Being a heart patient, she has been kept away from the truth that Deepak father has lost every penny in the stock market and has gone bankrupt. He has to pay heavy debt. This tension takes away the life of the father. The bunch of heavy resonbiilties befalls on head of Deepak. He looks forward for the weddings of his sisters. He lost his aunty in dowry. This again comes in the way of his sister's marriage.
Deepak with the help of Marriage Bureau finds out right candidates for his sisters . Deepak gets a relief at the news of this. But dowry does not allow the marriagre. His friend Anwar Bhiwandiwala, played by Ravindra Kapoor, advises Deepak to marry, the sisters of the candidates selected by his own sisters.
In the event of non receipt of dowry money, in laws start haressing the sisters mercilessly. One sister is beaten like an animal and an attempt to burn the second one is also attempted. Knowing that Deepak has given a word to marry a different girl, Shaila accepts the young boy as propsoed by her own brother.
A sum of Rs.5,00,000/ will solve his dowry problem , mother and sister forces Deepak to take out money from banks. At this point of time , they are informed about their financial. situation. But nobody including the mother believe this and Deepak is accused of manipulating the funds raised by his late father. Deepak finds no alternate for the dowry demand raised by sister's in laws. He gets ready to marry a girl in exchange of dowry. The girl, loves some another boy. Despite this she agrees to marry Deepak and commits suicide on the night of the marriage.
The untimely death of his wife, drags Deepak into court. But letter written by his wife before the death, rescues Deepak and he is aquitted.
The strong script written by Ranjan Bose is catchy. Screen play is also upto the mark. But dialogues fail to deliver the message in its real sense of the term. The solution to avoid the concept of dowry has proved very dangerous.
To accept marriage with two girls for sake of dowry sounds ridiculous and funny. Why a girl should marry a person, whom she knows to be a person, marrying her just for the sake of dowry. These are the question that Ranjan Bose would harly know to anwer.
Acting wise Raj Babbar and Anita Raaj are O.K..They have given justification to their roles. In other cast Madan Puri, T.P.Jain. Asit Sen, Simple Kapadia and Jagdish Raaj are passable. In the role of judge, the produce Tahir Hussain, has helplessly given the verdict in Deepak's favour, based upon the letter of the diseased girl.
Music does not score. One or two songs are good.
