The comedy whacky love story from Pritish Nandy failed to live up to the expectations of its audience. The much hyped movie
stars Ranvir Shourie (Kabir) and Mallika Sherawat (Kuhu) in their new avtars.
The film is about a guy devoted to a girl who leaves no stones unturned to humiliate him. She makes him run half naked in the streets, ride a bicycle without a seat, steal flower from garden, wear high heeled sandals.
Kabir runs into a completely sloshed Kuhu on a railway station, saves her life and their first meeting end up with Kabir going to jail. Kuhu, instead of thanking him, starts harassing him. She makes him run out of his wits. The character of dominating, bossy girl and the timid and submissive boy will make u smile, which fades away as the movie moves on. It makes u feel the absence of story and plot due to which the events seem repetitive. The story seems stretched in the second half. Mallika Sherawat disappears for two years. Gaurav Kapoor comes out of nowhere to marry Mallika Sherawat and has already met Ranvir Shourie who has given him tips to win her heart.
A completely baseless story from a debutante director who does not know how to conclude it.
Music by Anu Malik is another sore point. Besides 'Talli' , and to some extent 'Karle Gunaah', the remaining songs should be given a skip.
The movie adapted from the Korean film My Sassy Girl fails to bring out the sweet fun film.
Ranvir is fantastic as Kabir with natural expressions and is not pretending to act. Playing a submissive character requires complete understanding of the craft and Ranvir prove sthat he is defintely one of the most dependable actors in the industry.
Mallika is complete natural. no other actress could have carried such a devilish streak so well. The film also captures the emotional side of Kuhu in the concluding moments of the movie.
On the whole UGLY AUR PAGLI is an ordinary fare lacking a tight script.
