Rock on!! It’s the story about a rock band, Directed by Farhan Akhtar, which consisted of four friends namely,
Aditya who is Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli and Luke Kenny. They were one of the best bands in the country named MAGIK. One gets tempted not to watch the movie but to listen to the songs in the theatre. The movie consists of what happened with the band at the start and than what happened eventually as time passed on.
The four friends Farhan Akhtar-Aditya, Arjun Rampal-Joe, Purab Kohli- killer drummer , and Kenny couldn’t afford to purchase instruments to participate into a live concert where the winners get an opportunity to make an album as well as a music video. So they end up in a garba concert where they play garba music with their electric guitars and drums.
They take part in the concert eventually, and fortunately they win it, and they get an opportunity to make a music video, they land up in a studio where among all the four, the director concentrates more on Farhan Akhtar, and there is some misunderstanding that gets created within the group, Arjun Rampal is a very short tempered guy and bashes the director and Farhan Akhtar and after that the whole band gets split. Prachi Desai who is Farhan Akhtar’s wife, tries to take Farhan out of his boring life, to a life in which he would be more happy,
After a long 10 years they meet up altogether one more time and the problems that kept them away gets resolved because of Prachi and they rock the stage one more time but unfortunately rob dies because of brain tumor. Later, everybody else live happily ever after, doing what they desired ten years back.
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s music is perfect. It’s completely in sync with the mood of the film. Connoisseurs of music have already showered the music with rave reviews and rightly so! Jason West’s cinematography is fantastic. The screenplay and dialogues are commendable.
About the songs
1. The songs ‘Socha Hai’ Eshaan Noorani on lead guitar and Darshan Doshi on drums deserve special mention for their excellent work.
2. ‘Pichle Saat Dino Mein’ Farhan nails the song again. It’s not long before you start nodding your head to it and singing along to the chorus, ‘Nana Na Na Na’. Javed Akhtar swaps his usually cryptic poetic lyrics for straightforward, everyday language which makes the song close to real life. 'Pichle Saath Dinon Mein' is repeated later on in the album as a live version which is equally good., title track and ‘Sinbad the Sailor’
3. Rock onn!! The song starts off with a tune used as theme music in Lakshya’s background score. Once again Eshaan does an amazing job on lead guitar.
4. Ye Tumhari Meri Baatein provides a nice interval after the fast and loud phase of the album.
