I went to the theater expecting to see another magical Harry Potter masterpiece; however, to my utter disappointment
the magic seemed to have been drained and replaced with a low-budget, poorly-scripted film.
Not only did the movie seem under-casted at times - less
students in the hallways and gatherings- but also the special effects appeared to be lacking in their usual extremity. For example, no enchanted ceiling? And of course I can not leave out that horrible scene where Gwap supposedly “picked” up Hermione; It looked as though she was simply standing on some invisible platform with the giant’s hand computerized around her. I had at least expected the graphics to be around the same level as it’s predecessors.
Now where to begin with what I felt were script flaws? I suppose I shall start with
Dumbledore. In the other movies, and throughout the books, Dumbledore’s character consistently airs itself with an almost maddening sense of both patience and collectiveness. He rarely has to speak up to be heard, and he hardly ever is shown as anxious or nervous; however, in the movie he is portrayed as less calm and more uptight. Also, I understand that the movie must leave certain events out in order to fit within a decent time frame, but I don‘t understand the logic behind the unnecessary adding of events. Why would they waste a whole scene to show off the students sketching the phrase “I must not tell lies” into the backs of their hands when in the book only Harry Potter and Lee Jordan had to endure that special punishment?
Overall, I thought the movie was a waste of my time and money. I seriously hope the next one will prove otherwise.
