The Bucket List

Movie Abstract by: Surhi

The essence of life…
“THE BUCKET LIST”
           Characters
like Edward Cole and Carter Chambers are the most meaningful ideals and base to the entire movie. The basic point is, not only what the movie is about but also what it represents to us. Involving different characteristics of people in this movie makes us think how far from the reality we can be. The Bucket list introduces to us the lives of two different, yet pretty alike, men that teach each other how to really enjoy life. It represents what a tough time in life may look like and how real it can get if you let it. That's why they decide to take over their lives and make their own desitions.
The movie starts with Carter Chambers as the first character that appears, and it begins with him fixing cars and answering trivia questions, which, from the beginning, it is displaying this character as a really intelligent one, when a call he was waiting for arrives and he learns he is sick. During the entire movie we get to know this character as a very humble and honest man. He has a wife and three children which he has lived his life for. He turns out to be the first to pass away and he actually left this world with love in his heart for his family and for Edward Cole who became his good friend. He is the one that started the idea of the bucket list but let it go because he learned he was going to die much sooner than he thought.
After the first picture of where Carter Chambers gets the phone call, Edward Cole then discovers he is sick and goes to the hospital where he ends up bunking up with Carter. Although this character, at first, is presented as a very egocentric and self-centered one, as the story develops itself he comes to a productive change. He has been married four times and has a daughter who didn’t talk to him. He owned the hospital and was a very rich man. He discovers Carter’s list and after modifying it he decides to go up for it and takes care of the money on the adventure. He dies long after Carter and with peace because he managed to do everything he wanted and his daughter even talked to him.
The bucket list is a set of things you want to do before you “kick the bucket”. Carter learned from it when he was studying in college and decided to give it a try. They started with skydiving and proceeded to driving a Shelby, travel to France, they go to the wild, travel to Egypt and then to India, after that they went to China and the Himalayas, then Hong Kong and once in America, even after death they were still achieving them. Each one of these goals taught them to enjoy life and be different and good human beings. They went for a long time with the only idea of experiencing the main things they wanted to do before dying and they died with the peace of knowing that they finished the list. Is like a self proclamation and something that fills them for that when the time comes you can actually leave with a smile on your face.
The bucket list is a movie filled with, not only the desire to keep living, but, wanting to do even more with the life that is remaining. It is a good example of what we should not do when we are sentenced to die but just before. It teaches you to enjoy life by the second no matter what, enjoy people, nature and memories while they last knowing that much better things will come ahead. And to know that knowing when you are going to die is not always good nor bad it's what you decide it to be. The main aspect is that is your life and you are the only one that should know what and how to do things and make them YOUR choice. The display of this two characters was actually really good for the whole story line because they were two completely different people which tell us that you can be any gender, race, age, rich and arrogant or smart and humble, and still be able to enjoy the essence of what life is …
