Fashion – when dreams confront reality.
Whenever
we talk about
Fashion, what comes to our mind is
Glamour. Many people dreams to be part of this world but only few make their way. However no one really knows what is waiting for them in this glamorous world until they step in it.
Recently I saw a film, Fashion which really impressed me. What draws my attention in this film is how the director has been able to picture the real Fashion World, a world that none of us can imagine, a world which can make you become famous in one minute and invisible in the other, a world where importance is given to Glamour and nothing else matters.
This film relates the story of Meghna, a simple girl from Chandigar, who dreams of becoming a super model and against the will of her father, she leaves for Mumbai to fulfill her dreams. There she meets up with people who help her to step in the Fashion World and she starts doing little auditions. Soon luck smiles at her and she becomes close to the Glamour World’s shark, namely Mr. Abhijeet Sareen, the owner of the most prestigious modeling agency, Panache. Her path towards success begins when she replaces a famous model Shonali (who gets replaced due to her behavior and messed up personal life) and becomes the new face of Panache. Meghna finds herself becoming famous overnight and gradually she distances herself from those who helped her to step on this world.
We say that usually when people get rich, they tend to forget where they come from and Meghna confirms it. The simple girl whose ambitions were to become a super model turns into the Famous model Meghna who doesn’t need anyone. At this stage, the director shows us that in this World glamour becomes so important that people don’t even know how to differentiate between what is good and what is bad. Success becomes such an important part of their life that they don’t even have time to think about these things. Meghna increasingly becomes arrogant and full of attitude which forces her friends to keep away from her.
Nevertheless, as we say every good thing has an end, the Glamorous dream world of Meghna also comes to an end overnight after she reveals the secret affair she was having with Mr. Sareen to his wife. She finds herself being replaced by someone else as the face of Panache, just like she replaced Shonali. This shock brings Meghna to such stage that she adopts the lifestyle of Shonali and starts smoking, drinking and taking drugs. Her lifestyle deteriorates gradually and one day she ends up by having a one night stand with a complete stranger.
At that stage, totally depressed, she decides to go back to Chandigar. After one year of depression, her father boosts her up and convinces her to return to Mumbai and achieve her goal. Once there, she contacts her old friends who helped her to step in the Fashion World, ask for forgiveness. They help her and encourage her to make a comeback. However, Meghna meets up with Shonali, who has lost her mental balance. Meghna decides to help her and as well as look after her career.
This time we are faced to a New Meghna, someone who wants to achieve success but at the same time wants to be with her closed ones. Once again Meghna gets the chance to be the Showstopper; a golden opportunity to make her comes back in this Glamour World. However, things turn out badly when Shonali disappears a few days before Meghna’s show, which disturbs Meghna a lot. What shatters her completely is the death news of Shonali just before she her turn during the show. Nevertheless, she manages to gather her courage to walk on the ramp and make her triumphant comeback.
Here the director shows us that in this world we have to learn how to conceal our pain because what matters is Glamour. No matter how much pain we are undergoing, what is important is the outcome must be perfect. Along with all this, Meghna also learns something else out of this experience: be good to the people you meet while climbing the ladder of success because you always meet them downward and you never know when you might need their help to climb again.
