Yes Madam Sir

Movie Review by: tsriyaa

Lets look at a movie that brings to limelight a more realistic picture of India than Slumdog . ‘ Yes Madam, sir ‘,
of course can be called a biography of India’s first female IPS officer Kiran Bedi on a roller coaster ride to the top. Directed by a foreigner as well, ‘ Yes madam , sir’, made it to the Toronto International Film Festival in September last year.
Megan Donman, the Australian film maker, was influenced by Kiran’s outstanding focus and determination to take up hideous tasks and successfully cut the guardian knot. The documentary is 90 minutes of reality and thrill, with conniving colleagues of Miss Bedi, and her taking the bull by the horns. The movie has a sequence of incidents in which Miss Bedi is caught in a deplorable maze and how she converts each obstacle into an opportunity to stand out shattering the plans of her opponents.
The movie opens with Hillen Merren (depicting Bedi)determined and focused to handle an unruly sword wielding mob in Delhi, when much on the contrary, the police are unable to control them. Its not hard to believe that these 90 minutes were shot with toil and moil for six whole years . No wonder, it was one of the top 20 non – fiction movies of 2008.
However, most of the Indians are oblivious to ‘ Yes madam, sir’. It is shocking that a film based on an Indian woman has hardly any paeans though it has been well received overseas. It is still a question whether we Indians are too submerged in romances and masala that we turn a deaf ear to reality movies, or is it just media that is to be blamed?
Still, its not too late. So fasten your seat belts and set out on a ride to watch the real story of Kiran Bedi turn reel.
