In the film the school has the role of ideological apparatus with the function of transmitting
knowledge such that
students were alienated from it. A traditional school where the teacher is the owner of
knowledge and students passively listen to it only mechanically and decorate the knowledge transmitted by the teacher.
With the arrival of
Professor Keating pupils were a little scared because the teacher leaving the standards to which the students were accustomed, but then began to admire his ideas and how to "see" the company.
Professor Keating sought inspiration in art and poetry to make students reflect on their reality in order to train people and contrutores critical of his own knowledge.
The Dead Poets Society preached freedom of expression, the way the people have their own opinions and follow their convictions.
