The right to life accorded for each human being should never to be taken away by any means. However, any motive that is
clouded with greed and lust of power may result to the violation of human rights. In Darfur, the society is beset with the existence of both the Arab and non-Arab settlers wherein conflict is the image. The Arab settlers which are supported by the
Sudanese government wanted to dislocate the non-Arab settlers to get hold of the area. With that, there is a discussion of racial discrimination in the documentary film entitled “Sand and Sorrow”. The domineering race is the Arab settlers backed up by the Sudanese government while the victims are innocent Civilians in Darfur.
The documentary film is an effective instrument of telling the whole world that genocide has been applied in Darfur and that the
international arena must do something to save the Darfurians. In a genocide conflict, the use of force is indispensable such that the people affected must be saved from that horrible holocaust as shown in the film. Genocide is also a gruesome politics that withheld the right of the innocent victims to fight for their lives. Aside from the experience of extreme poverty, there is also the daily scenario of terror, rage, rape, bloodbath and hunger that make the victims suffer to death. Extreme poverty could have been solved, but not in a society wherein massive killings and human assaults has been staged. Fear and survival go hand in hand as people as slaughtered by the militia that are supposed to be representatives of the government. Thus, the international community must give attention to what happened in Darfur if human rights advocacy is to be advanced by concerned citizens worldwide.
The documentary film entitled “Sand and Sorrow” also uncovered the truth about Darfur and the suffering of its people. In that film, a tragic story of inhumanity is being disclosed for the public to know and ponder that may lead to action. The truth is thousands of people in Darfur are killed everyday and countless number of women was systematically raped by the militia group that is responsible of the human rights violations. The Darfurian communities are virtually dissolved as all men are compelled to leave their homes and are forced to stay in the squalor of refugee camps. There is no peace around the area and there is a slim chance or possibility of survival.
Since the problem calls for a consensus of the international community to help the people in Darfur, a strong political policy must be implemented by the powerful states like the United States, Britain, Russia and even China. Darfur may not give benefits to the aforementioned countries, but if conscience and sympathy could touch the hearts of the people concerned, then the holocaust in Darfur can be stopped and never again will it happen. The African race that is in Darfur must be saved from their sufferings and plight due to political struggles of the Arab settlers. The horrific photos of malnourished children and pregnant woman raped by the invaders in Darfur are real evidences of the said genocide that should be the basis of doing the right thing for the benefit of the people in Darfur. Therefore, the solutions of the problem must be the combination of a more active peace process with the immediate deployment of United Nations led protection force envisioned to protect the civilians while negotiations are being held. Besides, heavy penalties must be applied to the people that are responsible of the violence after careful investigation and trial by the International Court of Crimes or other international organizations authorized to investigate the situation.
