Karate Kid Part 2

Movie Summary by: fasulia

The story of Daniel LaRusso & his mentor Mr. Miyagi continues in Karate Kid II exactly at the climax of the Part I where
the ‘All Valley Karate Championships’ have ended.
Outside the stadium, as Daniel and Mr. Miyagi are leaving to go home, in the parking lot ‘Kobra Kai’ teacher, Sensei Kreese abuses and criticizes Jonny for getting 2nd place, but his anger goes beyond simple sport. He is insulted at having lost to Mr. Miyagi’s traditional method of Karate. Kreese takes out his anger on Mr. Miyagi, who literally humiliates him, making his knuckles bleed. As all the ‘Kobra Kai’ students watch, their respect for Daniel & Mr. Miyagi increases.
Six months have now passed since that event, and Daniel’s focus on life has wavered again, so much so, that when he comes to Mr. Miyagi, it is for v-e-r-y minor issues. Mr. Miyagi brings Daniel back to focus by one of his short meditation exercises, and sets him to work on building a guest room for himself. Daniel’s mother preferred him to stay with Mr. Miyagi while she had to go and visit some family in Fresno during the summer.
Early one morning a message comes to Mr. Miyagi from Okinawa saying that his father would like to see him before he dies. The old man hurries to get his travel documents ready and prepares to fly home to Okinawa. Daniel, thinking it to be his moral duty to be with his mentor during this difficult time, decides to go with him.
When they arrive at Okinawa airport, they are received by Shozen, the nephew of Mr. Miyagi’s best friend and challenger in love, Sato. Instead of taking the two to Mr. Miyagi’s house, they are taken to  Sato's office. Seeing Sato again after 45 years evokes many painful memories for Mr. Miyagi, as he still loves Sato very much. At Mr. Miyagi’s house, all are surprised to see him, and he finds out that his teenage girlfriend, Yuki had not married all these years in wait for him.
Daniel finds a friend of his own, Kumiko , who, by chance is Shozen’s love interest . The next day Mr. Miyagi’s father calls both Sato and Mr. Miyagi and, with his last breath, begged them to bury their differences. Mr. Miyagi’s father dies. Sato, in mourning, gives 3 days respite to Mr. Miyagi before they would fight to the death.
After 3 days, Sato & his nephew Shozen, start their slow revenge by first destroying the Miyagi farm . Mr. Miyagi demonstrated patience. During this time, Daniel’s enmity with Shozen increased as much as his love for Kumiko – and at every opportunity, there was a confrontation between the two boys: sometimes at the village fruit market, and, other times, out on the street. Mr. Miyagi takes Daniel on a thorough round of his village and discusses situations as they were 45 years ago, and how Sato’s family took control of the village economy. Passing by the village fishing docks , Mr. Miyagi introduces to Daniel the Japanese rattle drum technique of Okinawa Karate. That evening, as Daniel & Kumiko were discussing Japanese festival of ‘Honouring the Dead’, Shozen and his goons come and beat up Daniel.
The next morning, Daniel goes to town with Kumiko and she relates her passion for becoming a professional ballerina. Not far from there, was Sato’s Karate institute where Daniel got a chance to see Shozen in action.
At lunchtime, by chance, Daniel & Kumiko entered a casino where ice-breaking competitions were being held. Daniel remembers his lesson of ‘mind over muscle’, and is forced into taking a shot at ice-breaking <6 blocks together>. As he tries to bail out, Mr. Miyagi arrives and places a heavy bet of USD 600 on a stake of 3 to 1, also giving him moral support. After a brief warm-up exercise, Daniel breaks all six. Both Sato & Shozen are left feeling insulted.
In the evening, Daniel & Kumiko go out to a dance club. Shozen & his goons pick a fight with Daniel there too. Finally, Daniel gets the upper hand, but, Kumiko leaves, dismayed. In the middle of the night, there is some sort of screaming that wakes Daniel up. It is Sato & Shozen looking to get even with Mr. Miyagi. Shozen entices Daniel into action by messing up Miyagi’s family gymnasium, but Daniel restrains himself.
The next evening, Kumiko & Daniel have a quiet moment together, but suddenly, the village bell sounds for emergency storm evacuation. The storm destroys the entire village and all go to safety, except Sato, who is buried under the rubble of his house. Miyagi hurries to his help, saving his life, thereby rekindling Sato’s love and friendship as it was 45 years ago. Shozen, however, still bears a grudge against Daniel, and Sato disinherits him.
Sato’s company helps to rebuild the village. That night the entire village celebrates the festival of ‘Honouring the Dead’. During the celebration, Shozen, feeling dishonoured, entices Daniel to fight, by making Kumiko his bait. Against his principles, Daniel fights for Mr. Miyagi’s & his own honour and the whole village supports him. Daniel wins the fight, the love of Kumiko and the entire village’s respect.
