Kelsey begins the movie by signing the whole of their home room up for the school play to stop it becoming a "Sharpay Show".
The group aren't too happy about it but with Gabriella managing to sweet talk them into it. The play starts to take shape.
With basketball, college applications, yearbook committee, prom committee and the play the group have a lot of work on their hands.
The romance betwen Gabriella and Troy is blooming, from dancing on the roof in the rain to having a strawberry picnic.
Gabriella is offered a special honour programme at her university of choice and is persuaded to take it. The distance puts Troy and Gabriella's relationship under strain and causes the play rehersals to be a disaster with Sharpay replacing Gabriella.
Sharpay's assistant, Tiara Gold, is a wannabe Sharpay and helps her with her schemes in East High.
Troy is continuously being forced to choose between basketball and drama, he is confused and both his dad and chad want him to go U of A as that had always been the plan.
There is a happy ending of the movie with all of the group being back together and choosing their different paths for the future. We, as an audience, get to say goodbye to the group during their last song "High School Musical" in their white and red graduation capes.
It's a feel-good, heart warming movie with the themes of romance, friendships, decisions and ambitions.
Heart throb Zac Efron is reason enough to watch it.
