Love Aajkal: Emotions and Ambitions

Movie Review by: absolutezero

Cast: Saif, Deepika, Rishi Kapoor

How Jai, an architect

who inspires to work in San Francisco, finally realizes what love is for him after having gone through break-ups.

It seems Director, Imtiaj Ali, wants to portray the Indian youth's dilemma of choosing between emotions and comfort of the modern world. The Indian youth is very much into modernization, internet, working abroad and carrying a very casual attitude towards life and love, yet somewhere deep inside there still rules the old passionate lover which makes him to chose love over material life by making him listen to his heart rather than follow his mind. It is love which never fades, never gets old, and never changes with time. It is all loving, caring and sharing that this world is holding itself.

Jai and Meera fall in love but soon breaks up as Jai wants to work in San Francisco and Meera, an art lover, wants to work in India. These ambitious duo are very clear with the break-up stuff and say goodbye so casually like nothing was there between them. Both are serious about their career and love is not a thing of priority over ambitions. They sound like very modern, practical, care-free and casual characters of modern day metro life.

On the other hand, in contrast to this casual love story, Veer Singh, tells Jai about how he fell in love some 40 years ago. In those days, they hardly even touched or spoke and expressed their emotions through silently. Jai laughs over this but finally realizes that love is not time-bound. With all the Modern things of today's life and the fast lifestyle, love is the same as it has been for years.

Innovative idea in the movie was after the break-up, both Jai and Meera tell each other stuffs they did not like while they were together.

Music by Preetam is good but the songs seems to interrupt the rhythm of the movie.

An average movie, do not go with very high expectations. But you can watch it; at least you won't need to take Tylenol or Motrin.
