Decent Role Models by Disney Standards
Belle - The Best
Princess by far!
Belle likes to read and takes care of
her father always standing up for what she believed in. The only complaint is that she is pretty sending the message that its always important for a girl to be pretty.
Mulan - she ran away, BAD, but she did it save her father
Even though she is not a
princess she is a role model that show women they can become what they want. I found out my daughter liked sleeping
beauty more then mulan because of her pink dress. Cant blame her, I like pink too. The problem is that mulan runs away too. Even though I don’t like that story line in this case it had a higher purpose, to save her father.
Jasmine - Used what she had to get what she wanted
I didn’t like the way she dressed and sometimes she was whinny but she was trying to break of the mold her father created for her so its not to bad. She also runs away stimulating this horrible idea.
Pocahontas - On the fence
I haven’t watched this movie over and over again so I don’t know what kind of princess she is. Is she a princess?
Alice
I need to think about Alice but my first instinct is good. She is fearless although I don’t get the obsession with the white rabbit, even though that could be seen as a mental issue, to keep going after the rabbit despite what crazy things you see or encounter. I don’t really like this movie so I’m gonna keep her as indifferent. I would like to think my daughter would turn back before crawling in that nasty little cave.
The Princess and the Frog
I haven’t seen the movie but think its great that Disney is adding more diversity. The movie still has a prince because that should be the only ambition to girls.
Aurora - the most worthless Princess
Sleeping Beauty’s name is Aurora and she does nothing but cry for finding out she was a princess and sleep. She hardly says any words in the movie. What sucks is that he voice and beauty were given to her by the fairies like those two were the most important qualities in a princess.
Ariel - 16 is WAY to young to get married
Ariel run away at the age 16 thinking she know what was best for her. In my opinion that would still be her parents. Making a deal with the witch teaches my daughter to make deals with bad people if it gets what she wants. The good thing about this movie is that Ariel takes part in killing the witch and saves the prince in the end.
Cinderella - Fought for what she wanted
A singing beauty again – come on. If it were today I would have stood up to her step mother but thinking at her standers that might not have been a choice for her. She fought for what she wanted the problem is that her major dream was to go to a ball. Itd have been better if she wished to be a wealthy merchant that could gain her independence from her step mother.
So, judging her by today standards I think I would have stood up to her step mother but I do not think that would have been a real choice for Cinderella.
Cinderella wanted more and she fought to go to the ball. She followed her dreams but the fact that her major dream was to go to a ball stinks. A better dream would be to become a wealthy merchant that could gain her independence from her Step Mother
Snow White - Typical Femine model and there is nothing wrong with that
Singing and Pretty are her biggest characteristics. She is the typical stereotypes: likes to cook, clean and takes care of people. Those things are important and fine if that’s what she wants to do.
